Libraries and a community centre are amongst the beneficiaries of funding generated by new housing developments in Bournemouth and Poole.
Over £227,000 has been awarded via the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) Neighbourhood Portion Fund and invitations are open for future grants.
Last year, BCP Council invited residents, businesses and community groups in the area to submit bids for local projects which would improve, benefit and shape the development of their community.
Over 30 projects across 21 wards have been successful in their bid and have been awarded funding. £30,000 has been awarded to Canford Cliffs Library to extend the community meeting room to enhance the programme of activities and improve disabled access, whilst £10,000 will be used to replace the canopies for the Art and Makers Market in central Bournemouth. Hamworthy Community Watersports Library has been awarded £15,000, and the kitchen at Strouden Park Community Centre will receive over £3,000 to improve their community catering offer.
Cllr Philip Broadhead, deputy leader of the council and portfolio holder for Development, Growth and Regeneration, said: “Helping our communities to thrive is one of the cornerstones of our administration, so being able to share this funding on such a local level really is making a positive contribution to us unlocking our aspirations for the BCP area. Ensuring that the Community Infrastructure Levy is managed and spent in this way means that local people are truly benefiting from development.”
Cllr Jane Kelly, lead member for Communities, BCP Council, said: “Being on the CIL Neighbourhood Panel is a wonderful reminder of how much our residents value and contribute to their local communities. Really worthwhile projects are happening right across our region and we know that even the smallest of funds awarded can make the biggest difference to those involved.
“It gives me a great sense of pride to see the successful projects progressing and knowing how much this support means to our community leaders.”
The next round of funding is now open. For more information on how to submit and to view the full list of projects awarded funding, please visit: bcpcouncil.gov.uk/CILNeighbourhoodPortion.
