Footloose to be staged in Wimborne this week
Pupils from six different schools will be performing in this musical at Queen Elizabeth’s School Theatre on 6, 7 and 8 February.

Collaboration between several local schools will see the musical ‘Footloose’ staged at Wimborne’s Queen Elizabeth’s School Theatre on 6, 7 and 8 February.
The production will include pupils from Initio Learning Trust’s four middle schools – St Michael’s, Allenbourn, Lockyer’s and Cranborne – as well as youngsters from Broadstone Middle School, part of Castleman Academy Trust, and top-performing arts students in Year 13 at Queen Elizabeth’s School.
Local businesses are supporting the school with the financial cost of costumes, props, set and lighting, along with front of house refreshments and programmes.
‘Footloose’ is the story of a teenage boy from Chicago called Ren. He and his mother move to the small town of Bomont, where the Reverend has convinced the town to outlaw dancing. Ren finds this unbelievable and with the help of his friends, manages to convince the Reverend to let the teenagers dance, and in the process helps the town to heal from a tragedy that affected them all.
Head of Performing Arts at Queen Elizabeth’s School, Alex Payne, who is directing the show, said: “The students are looking forward to showcasing their performing arts skills and I am very proud of their dedication and commitment to this performance.
“They have come together as a team, with the older QE students supporting and encouraging the younger ones from the middle schools, enabling everyone to learn valuable lessons both on and off stage.
“Taking part in the performing arts in this way enriches the lives of our young people and is a fantastic opportunity for them to demonstrate their creativity and to build confidence and self-discipline – skills that will benefit them across all areas of life.”
Headteacher at Queen Elizabeth’s School, Thomas Neill, said: “The students have been working so hard on this production and I very much hope that the whole community will come and support them.
“After the success of last year’s show, ‘Oliver the Musical’, where we put out extra seating due to a sell-out show, the QE ‘Footloose’ performance is sure not to disappoint.”
