Olympics inspiring students to go that extra mile

Boys at Harewood College in Bournemouth, which last year achieved its best ever GCSE results with 51% gaining at least five A* to C grades including English and Maths, is recognising students who are achieving great successes through an Olympic award scheme.
Every time a student excels they are given an Olympic ring. When they get all five rings they are awarded a special trophy: Blue is excellence; black is friendship and respect; red is inspiration; yellow is equality; and green is determination and courage.

Vehicle crime on the rise in Dorset

The number of thefts from vehicles across Dorset has increased by 12.3% from April 2012 to 27 January 2013. This is an increase of 355 offences.
Between 1 and 27 January there have been 13 reported break-ins to cars parked at beauty spot locations across Dorset – including rural car parks in Cerne Abbas, Bridport, Blandford, Wimborne and Wareham.

Bleak outlook for Furzehill council offices

The Christchurch and East Dorset Partnership has made an announcement about its accommodation needs following speculation about its future plans.
Having looked at four possible options, an officer working group has identified that the best one would be to have the majority of staff located in the current civic offices in Christchurch with a smaller civic hub to be built in Wimborne, and to dispose of the existing offices at Furzehill.

‘Leaf’ a Message on Dignity Trees

To mark Dignity Action Day, ‘Dignity Champions’ at Dorset HealthCare have arranged for Dignity Trees to be placed at sites across the county – including Alderney Hospital in Poole, the Diabetes Department at Dorchester Hospital and the Forston Clinic near Dorchester. The Dignity Trees are platforms for staff and the public to share their opinions, by writing comments on leaves and attaching them to the Dignity Tree.
